"Navigating healthcare for the uninsured."
Cumberland HealthNET wants to work with you! Whether you are uninsured and in need of access to health care, a medical professional who would like to donate services, a healthcare organization that would like to participate, or a community member who can volunteer or provide financial support -- Cumberland HealthNET is the place for you.
According to the North Carolina Institute of Medicine there are approximately 1.6 million North Carolinians without health insurance. Cumberland County alone has approximately 58,000 uninsured and underinsured residents making up 20.3% of our total population (www.nciom.org). That’s 58,000 people in our community – friends, family, colleagues and neighbors – without health insurance and who cannot afford medical care. Relative to people with insurance the uninsured receive less preventive care, they’re diagnosed at more advanced disease stages and once diagnosed they receive less therapeutic care and have higher mortality rates.
The mission of Cumberland HealthNet is to create a coordinated system of care for the uninsured residents of Cumberland County resulting in healthier residents with a better quality of life.
